Top 10 Best Genre Films of 2012 from Subtitlemeplease

2012 for movies was in my mind a better year then 2011 for Genre Films.  Lots of great movies didnt make my top 10 film list.     As you can see from my 2012 movie list Europe can out top this year for me, in the past Asian movies would feature strongly sadly not so this year

10.  Mandrill 2009 - Chile

A 2009 Chilean Film not released on DVD until this year with English Subtitles. Mark Zaror ( Kiltro, Undisputed 3 ) is king and is a awesome actor considering his main disipline is in the martial arts.  Mandrill is very 70s influenced so if you like a film with a retro influence, Mandrill will make you happy.  This film would of been higher but its a 2009 film kind of unfair!

9. Tony Manero 2008 - Chile

Tony Manero 

 Tony Manero is very much like the character in 'No Rest For the Wicked', a man determind to get no prisoners and do whatever he wants to get what he wants.  This is NOT a musical its a Drama/Thriller which some say is rather violent.

8.  Taped 2012 - Netherlands

Taped is a 2012 Dutch Thriller set in Buneos Aires, a edge of your seat Thriller ALREADY in the works for a english language remake from Columbia Pictures.   This film really gets going in the first 10 minutes!  Best off not watching a trailer for this one if I was you guys and girls!

7.  Black Games 2012 - Iceland 

A Icelandic Gritty Crime Thriller about the Iceland Drug trade.  Loved this one, some great acting and characters who you were get to know and care for in this, great script.  Pretty damm voilent as well.

6. HeadHunters 2011 - Norway

Norwegian 2012 thriller, this Nowegian movie is based on a Jo Nesbo Novel, edge of your seat thriller with some nice dark comedy.  Loved it.  The outhouse toilet roll scene and dog on the tractor scenes were rather splendid and 'lolworthy'

5. A Desire To Kill 2010 ( Enemy At The Dead End ) - Korea

Oldboy set in a hospital.  A awesome Korean thriller with a humorous side, both characters are evil f@ckers set hellbent on killing each yet confined to hospital beds, with one of the men having memory loss, having no idea the bloke next to him wants him dead!.   See it a really great film from a twisted mind!

Sadly the first English Subtitled DVD of this anywhere only came out late 2012.

4. Bullhead 2011 - Belgium

The 2012 Belgium Foreign Film Nomination at the Oscars staring the rather awesome Matthias Schoenaerts ( Loft, Rust and Bone, Left Bank ) who can been seen next year in the Hollywood remake of the 2010 Dutch movie Loft.

3. Snabba Cash ( Easy Money 2010 ) - Sweden

I am Robocop

Already due for a remake staring Robocops Joel Kinnaman.   Snabbah Cash 3 is already being planned.  I personally dont see how anyone can recapture Kinnamans screen presence hes oozes in these

No Rest For the Wicked Spanish 2011 - This Thriller about a corrupt drunk Cop won 6 Goya Awards and is very violent and focusing on a man who has no disregard for human live in order to get his own way.

1. Sleepless Night 2011 ( Une Nuit ) - France

Largo Winch stars in Sleepless Night

French thriller staring Tomer Sisley ( Largo Winch 1 + 2 ).  Due for a Remake, please don't hire Olivier Megatron to do this.  This film is basically all set in a nightclub focusing on Tomer Sisleys characters attempt to rescue his son while trying to find a stash of cocaine he has lost in the process.  Plus all the extras in the Nightclub scenes are actually clubbers adding to the authenticity

The film is the most fun I've head watching a thriller in a long time, too many twists and turns to mention, plus the Kitchen scene is one of the most brutal fight scenes Ive seen in a long time.. VERY VERY realistic.. someone must have got hurt filming this scene.

2012 was a great year for the Genre Film, and I hope that 2013 is equally as good.  Genre Films I'm looking forward to seeing in 2013 include Snabba Cash 2/3, Rec 4 and seeing the american remake of Dutch thriller Loft.
